Brief Description of Research Interest :
|
After completing my PhD in cancer biology, my current research is focused in the field of regenerative medicine. During my cancer biology program I learned how deregulation in protein homeostasis affects progression of malignancy in several tissue types. My postdoctoral work in Dr.Zochodne’s lab utilizes this information towards peripheral nerve regeneration events. My work progresses through siRNA and small molecule based therapeutic approaches aimed at peripheral nerve regeneration. I routinely perform sciatic nerve crush and transection injury models in rats and additionally engaged with techniques like primary culture of adult rat sensory neurons, immunocytochemistry, immunoblotting and advanced microscopy. Understanding the basics of tissue growth and regeneration can also bring light to the 'critical points of errors' leading to carcinogenesis. Thus, I strongly believe that the knowledge acquired from regeneration research would help me exchange scientific information to the ‘understanding of carcinogenesis’ as well.
