Brief Description of Research Interest :
I study the role of a novel family of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) called Discoidin Domain Receptors (DDRs) in normal mammary gland development and in breast cancer progression. As receptors of various types of collagen in the extracellular matrix, DDRs likely play a key role in determining how normal epithelial cells and tumor cells respond to their collagenous microenvironment. I am also interested in identifying novel stromal prognostic predictors/biomarkers for the treatment and prevention of breast and other cancers. 

In addition to research, I am interested in promoting postdoctoral activities and reviving the postdoc community at my institution.  I am also participating in an institute-wide initiative to identify innovative training strategies for graduate students and postdocs to make them more prepared for the broad and evolving biomedical job terrain.
