Brief Description of Research Interest :

My long-term scientific goal is to focus on understanding the role of mitochondrial disease, and to investigate how mitochondria control various metabolic processes in our body. Further, I believe that not only diseases but also the drugs used in the treatment of diseases have a strong impact on mitochondrial function. By combining my knowledge of pharmacology and cell biology, and the research expertise I have gained through doctoral and postdoctoral training, I plan to study the effect of drugs on mitochondrial function during disease. As my independent research plan evolves, I would like to ask more translational questions that address individualized mitochondrial therapies. Studying the function of mitochondria during disease and the effects of drugs used to treat particular diseases will help enable clinical researchers to develop novel therapies for mitochondrial diseases.
