Brief Description of Research Interest :
I am interested in the fundamental differences between normal cells and "cancer" cells. To this effect, my graduate work focused on the balance between nitric oxide signaling in normal physiology and angiogenesis and that of tumor angiogenesis.  My post-doctoral work is focused on a group of proteins called Melanoma Antigen Genes (MAGEs) that are normally restricted in expression to the germline but are aberrantly re-expressed in a wide variety of tumors.  I have discovered that many of the MAGEs also known as cancer testis-antigens are in fact single gene drivers of cellular transformation. My other interests include study of specific signaling pathways such as acetylation in different cellular contexts.
